Alumastad contains dried aluminum hydroxide gel and magnesium hydroxide which are antacids pain reliever and indigestion discomfort by neutralizing acid, reducing the excess acidity in the stomach.

PRESCRIBING INFORMATION

Indications:

Alumastad is indicated for symptomatic treatment of disorder due to hyperacidity in:

  • Gastritis.
  • Hiatal hernia.
  • Dyspepsia.
  • Peptic ulcer.

Dosage:

For adults (> 15 years of age): 1 – 2 tablets to be chewed after meals or when pain (or malaise) occurs. Maximum daily dose: 6 doses. Do not exceed 12 tablets/day.

Usage:

Chew the tablet as carefully as possible.

 

  • Hypersensitivity to the active substance(s) or to any of the ingredients.
  • Severe renal insufficiency, due to the presence of magnesium.

Possible onset of:

  • Transit disorders (diarrhea or constipation).
  • Phosphorus depletion after long-term use or high doses, due to the presence of aluminum.
  • Aluminum hydroxide, in the presence of low phosphorus diets, may cause phosphorus deficiency.
  • In patients with renal impairment, plasma levels of both aluminum and magnesium increase. In these patients, a long-term exposure to high doses of aluminum and magnesium salts may lead to encephalopathy, dementia, microcytic anemia, or worsen dialysis-induced osteomalacia. The prolonged use of antacids in patients with renal failure should be avoided.
  • Aluminum hydroxide may be unsafe in patients with porphyria undergoing hemodialysis.
  • If disorders persist for more than 10 days, or if they get worse, screening for etiology should be carried out and treatment reassessed.
  • Alumastad contains sucrose (compressible sugar). Patients with rare hereditary problems of fructose intolerance, glucose-galactose malabsorption or sucrase-isomaltase insufficiency should not take this medicine.
  • Alumastad should only be used during pregnancy if necessary. This product should not be taken at high doses or over long periods. Breast-feeding can be continued during treatment.
