Almasane
OTC

Almasane is a balanced mixture of two antacids and an antiflatulent-agent simethicone. The two antacids are magnesium hydroxide which is fast acting and aluminium hydroxide which is a slow acting antacid. Aluminium hydroxide is given in association with a magnesium-containing antacid in order to reduce the constipating effects.

PRESCRIBING INFORMATION

Indications

The symptomatic relief of dyspepsia, heartburn, flatulence.

Dosage

1 – 2 sachets x 4 times daily.

Usage

Almasane is taken 20 minutes to 1 hour after meals and at bedtime or as required.

  • Known hypersensitivity to any of the active substances or excipients.
  • Patients are severely debilitated or suffering from kidney failure, or hypophosphataemia.
  • Very young children because of risk of aluminium toxicity aluminium.
  • Common: constipation, chalky taste, stomach cramps, fecal impaction, nausea, vomiting, discoloration of feces (white speckles).
  • Diarrhea is dose-dependent effect.
  • Hypophosphatemia may occur with prolonged administration or large doses; aluminium intoxication and osteomalacia may occur in patients with uremia.
  • Patients with renal impairment.
  • Patients with porphyria undergoing hemodialysis.
  • Patients with congestive heart failure, edema, cirrhosis, low sodium diets, and patients who have recently suffered from gastrointestinal hemorrhage.
  • Monitor phosphorus levels periodically when patient is on chronic therapy.
  • Patients with hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI).
  • Almasane may cause allergic reactions.
  • Safety of the drug in pregnancy has not been established.
  • Patients should be aware of how they react to drug before driving or operating machinery.
