PRESCRIBING INFORMATION

Indications

  • Calcium and vitamin C deficiency can be the result of poor nutrition or may occur due to an increased requirement of calcium and vitamin C as seen in pregnancy and breastfeeding; during periods of rapid growth (childhood, adolescence); in old age; and during infectious diseases and convalescence.

Dosage

  • Adults and children of school age: 1 effervescent tablet daily.
  • Children 3-7 years: ½ effervescent tablet daily.
  • Infants: As prescribed by physicians.

Usage

  • For oral administration.
  • Dissolve the tablet in a glass of around 200 ml water and drink immediately.
  • Hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
  • Hypercalcemia, severe hypercalciuria calcium – lithiasis and renal calculi.
  • Large dose of ascorbic acid should be avoided in patients with:
    + Glucose – 6 – phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (risk of hemolytic anemia).
    + History of nephrolithiasis, hyperoxaluria (increased risk of renal stone formation), thalassemia.
  • Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, constipation, flatulence, eructation, heartburn, abdominal cramps, fatigue, flushing, headache, insomnia and sleepiness.
  • Hypercalciuria, hypercalcaemia (long-term treatment with high doses).
  • Hyperoxaluria (high dose of vitamin C).
  • Acidification of the urine, precipitation of urate, cystine, or oxalate stones.
  • Use with caution in patients with mild hypercalciuria, with mild or moderate impairment of kidney function, or with a history of stone formation; diabetic patients (Pravitce contains about 0.8 g sugar /tablet), patients requiring low sodium diet (Pravitce contains about 0.36 g sodium/tablet).
  • Caution should be extreme exercised when using in neonates with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency and in otherwise healthy premature neonates.
  • High doses of vitamin D should be avoided during treatment with Pravitce unless especially indicated.
  • Prolonged use of large doses of vitamin C may result in increased metabolism of the drug, scurvy may occur when intake of the vitamin is reduced to normal. Ingestion of large doses of the vitamin during pregnancy has resulted in scurvy in neonates.
  • Pravitce may be taken during pregnancy and lactation.
  • Effects of the drug on the ability to drive and use machines have not been studied.
